This collage "To touch the edge of knowing No.15" seeks to discover symbolic forms and colours that resonate with inner spiritual experience, to touch an inner landscape that words don't reach. It is built from fragments of materials accumulated in the studio, reflecting the way personal experiences come together to form our identity.
I have called this series of paintings and photographs “Edge of Knowing”. I like the way that describes how I feel when starting a new painting – leaning on years of experience but not knowing a thing! I have used a grid of some kind in most images, representing the need to understand and order the world. But within the grid are abstract marks and shapes, the mystery of the unexplored unknown. I have put in undeciphered signs suggesting there is meaning I can’t see yet.
